How to Make Gardening More Enjoyable

While many people appreciate the joy of gardening on its own, sometimes it would be nice to add to the experience.  If you are looking for ways to make your time in the garden more relaxing, energizing, or social, here are some ways to bring even more to the table.

Enhance the Mood with Music

You’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t enjoy music.  Luckily, music is easy to bring with you through a variety of activities, gardening included.  To bring the joy of music into your gardening, consider bringing some of the latest technology along for the ride.

With smartphones being a staple in most households, you may find that all you need is a great set of headphones or speakers to bring music into your space.  Whether you want to create a custom playlist to help you keep your pace up, or want to stream your favorite internet radio station, your smartphone is an easy place to start.  If you don’t want to risk your phone getting wet, dirty, or damaged, look for Bluetooth enabled speakers or headphones.  This way, you can keep your phone safely away from your work area while still enjoying the added ambiance.

How to Make Gardening More Enjoyable

If using your smartphone isn’t an option, consider all of the audio your car has to offer.  By installing some of the best car speakers on the market, you can bring sound across your property while also making trips to the local garden center more enjoyable.  This can work especially well if you have a large property, and generally bring your vehicle to help transport tools or other necessities.

Make it a Group Activity

Doing something with friends or family can often turn a somewhat tedious task into a more enjoyable one, as you can spend the time together.  Consider getting your children involved to help them feel more connected to the plants around them.  This can be especially beneficial for children who may need some enticing to eat their fruits and vegetables, as being able to watch the plants grow and change can be a fun experience.  You can also make this private time with your spouse or significant other, creating an activity you can work on together.

If you would prefer spending the time with friends, consider making it part of a larger activity.  Consider grabbing a bottle of wine and making it a productive happy hour.  If you grow fruits or vegetables in your garden, you can even use the time to help gather foods for a great dinner as a thank you for all of the help.

An Exercise in Moving Meditation

A number of gardening activities can be quite soothing, and do not require a lot of mental focus to complete well.  This can make gardening an ideal form of moving meditation.  Choose to focus on various elements of the experience, such as the feel of soil in your hands, or the smell of a freshly picked tomato, and truly allow yourself to experience that sensation to its fullest.  Allow yourself to become immersed in each task, and take the time to appreciate it with as many of your senses as possible.

Moving meditation can make you feel closer to nature, as well as increase your appreciation for the amazing things in your life.  It can also can be a very relaxing, and rejuvenating, experience, which can leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.
